Monday Minute Challenge Entry!

Hi guys! This is the entry I came up for the Monday Minute Challenge, hosted by Tessa Emily Hall over at Christ is Write. The prompts were great, and I ended up using the three objects, coupled with the narration. My entry is 286 words long.

The rain was still pounding on the window and I sighed as I plunged my hands into the bubble filled sink. The lavender smell was sharp in the fry grease perfumed air. I slopped the sponge across the dirty plate, glad it was nearly closing time.
Pounding on the door assaulted my ears and I nearly dropped the plate. "What?" I scowled, wiping my hands on a towel and opening the door that served as a barrier between the drunk customers and my sanity.
I had to look up to meet the man's watery gaze. "We need you out here."
I frowned and brushed past him out into the barroom. Six men were still sprawled at the bar and tables. "What's going on here?"
A chorus of slurred responses answered me, none of them matching the other. The man in the corner stood and sauntered over, his Wonderland style top hat shadowing his pierced face. "We've made a bet, and we need you to officiate."
He slid a knife from his pocket and I flinched away. He held the handle out toward me. "It's a bet on my life, see." His Chicago accent was strong. "If I win, they owe me lots of money. If I lose," He shrugged. "I'm only out one life."
My fingers fumbled for the handle and he walked to stand against the wall. "Stick that through my hat, and you can scurry back to the kitchen."
My mind raced. It was crazy. But I was surrounded by drunks who wanted crazy. Now.
I flipped the knife over in my hand and took a deep breath. What other options did I have? I looked up at the Chicago Mad Hatter. He smiled.

(Yes, I did use a character from the entry I wrote for Teen Words of Steel. I liked him. Don't judge.)

Thanks for stopping by!

Chocolate Books Tag

I was tagged by Sarah of Forever Changed to do the Chocolate Books tag. I then lost the notification on my ipod, and completely forgot who nominated me, and what exactly I was supposed to do. But, I have gathered my wits and here are the long delayed answers. (I think I'm supposed to restrict my answers to one book per question, but I'm Divergent and can't be controlled, so I can't make any promises on that front)

1. Dark Chocolate (A book that covers a dark topic)
Well right now I'm reading Monster by Mirriam Neal. It's pretty dark so far, covering things like the human soul and such. I'm not very far in yet, so I can't say for sure what all is in it, but I think it definitely fits (and I'm loving the read).

2. White Chocolate (Favorite light-hearted/humorous read)
Hmmm, I don't read many light hearted books....Dry humor yes, but....I still love the Hank the Cowdog series. Those are definitely humorous and light-hearted.

3. Milk Chocolate (A book with a lot of hype that you're dying to read)
Well, I'm debating reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green...everyone is hyped up about The One by Kiera Cass, but I'm dreading it actually...Oh! I want to read If I Stay by Gayle Forman.

4. Caramel-filled Chocolate (A book that makes you feel all gooey inside)
Ooh, Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare, Divergent by Veronica Roth, High Lonesome by Louis L'amour.

5. Wafer-less KitKat (A book that has surprised you)
The two that instantly came to mind were Orphan's Song by Gillian Bronte Adams, and To Tame a Land by Louis L'amour.

6. Snickers (A book you're going nuts about)
Currently? It's Monster by Mirriam Neal, and Reached by Ally Condie. But that's just because I'm reading them both right now. If you even mention the Inheritance Cycle I'll go all crazy fan-woman on you.

7. Hot Chocolate With Mini Marshmallows (A book you turn to for a comfort read)
This will sound weird, but I really like to read American Diaries: Maddie Retta Lauren by Kathleen Duey. It's a little chapter book for like kids, but it's very realistic. I don't know why I like it for a comfort read, since I usually cry every time I read it, but I do like to read it when I'm feeling down. It's not nearly as traumatizing as most of the books I read nowadays. And I like it because I can curl up and read the whole thing in one sitting.
8. Box of Chocolates (A series you feel has something for everyone)
Oh...I don't know. Most of the series' that I read I have to stop and think before I suggest them to someone. There's usually something someone would hate about them...Um...The Chronicles of Narnia by Clive Staples Lewis! (Now I know why he went by C.S) I think most people can get along with that series just perfectly.

Now...who do I want to peek in on their reading habits?

And, let's make it an even four.

A Novel Idea

It's time for the weekly A Novel Idea post, hosted by Ashley Strawser from Ashley Aspires .
I'm using Reeve and Amy from Running Crazy.
(I'm also feeling rather dramatic at the moment, so just fair warning)

The Questions

The Answers

It's all coming up next

After the break

1. What is their favorite hobby?
Reeve's favorite hobby is working on vehicles. If he's not in school, working his job, (or traipsing around Wyoming with Amy) you can find him under a pickup surrounded by wrenches and oil.

Amy likes to play her guitar. Or even just listen to music. Many an hour has been spent exploring old songs on YouTube.

2. What is their favorite color?
Reeve likes dark blue. Nearly black, dark blue.

Amy's favorite color is yellow.

3. What is their favorite food?
Reeve will kill for a meat lover's pizza.

Amy's food taste are less violent, as she likes anything Italian.

4. Do they like to read? If not, why?
Reeve doesn't hate to read, but he is far from a bookworm. He would much rather be active than sitting around reading.

Being very fond of words, Amy does read, though her preference is music.

5. How do they usually spend their Saturday night?
Reeve fancies himself a bad boy/ladies man, so he's usually out with Donny on Saturday nights. He doesn't usually go to parties, but he will cruise town and talk to strangers.

Amy is more a homebody. She'll tuck herself away in her room and read, or play/listen to music.

I've Given the 'Gift' of Feels

I'm so excited. Like giddy bouncing around excited. I walked into the kitchen to find Minion 1 with tear streaks down her face, looking absolutely crushed. You know what she said to me when she saw me?
I hate you.

I was completely caught off guard, as I hadn't done anything particularly abominable to her in my recent memory. She then spiraled into a rant about how badly she hated me, and she was just so sad and depressed, and it was all my fault, and on and on and on.

When I finally got her to stop hating on me and explain why, she told me that she had read the Dynamic Duo (We left her home that day and she had lots of time), and now she hated me.

After a few more questions I figured out the source of her distress and laughed.
The part that she was so upset about....was the part she suggested I write.

It was all her idea. I can quote her.

"The reader part of me says let them live. The John Green part of me says kill them all." ~ Minion 1

She said that. She said that while I was writing the story.

Then she read the results and told me she hated me.

I tried to ask her if it was the type of hate that was serious and demanded a change in the story, or if it was the type of hate that can also translate into love, like that feeling people have for Rick Riordan, John Green, Veronica Roth, and Suzanne Collins.

She was pretty much a blubbering mess for several hours and all she would say was that she hated me.

The next day though I did get her to speak plain English. I told her I would change the story so the episode in question never happened. That sent her into another fit. Apparently she thinks the outcome is perfect, and any changes to it would ruin everything, and she hates me.

I've come to a humongous conclusion guys. I'm capable of producing feels  in a reader.

*Happy Dance*

An Entry

Hi guys! I'm so excited, because Brooke at Teen Words of Steel  is hosting contests again. The contest is open to anyone, and followers of her blog can vote for the entry they like best. Check out Sarah's post for all the rules. The entry's are due by this Wednesday. Now, moving past all the specifics, here is my entry: It came out at 305 words. (Thank you Brooke so much for giving a fairly large word count limit)

The door swung open, scraping against the linoleum floor. I looked up at the sound, my aching head swimming with the movement.
A man walked into the hotel lobby, tracking the rain in with him and capturing my attention. He looked like a character who'd crawled out of an Alice in Wonderland story and discovered the emo style. Dyed black hair edging his face, and a leather jacket, set off with a top hat.
His liner rimmed eyes swung around to me and I looked down quickly and tried to look like I actually wanted the continental breakfast in front of me. I heard his steps coming closer and bit in a frown as he slid into the chair across the table from me.
"Mind if I sit here?" His deep Chicago accent pulled my gaze up and he smiled, the skin around his lip ring pulling tight.
A knot balled in my throat and I shook my head slightly. "That's fine."
His smile grew wider, but it wasn't the grin of a Mad Hatter. This was someone who knew exactly what he was doing, and probably what everyone else was too.
When I didn't return the smile his green eyes dropped to my plate. "That looks good. I think I'll get some." He stood and crossed over to the breakfast bar and I felt like I could breathe again. He returned a few minutes later, his plate heaped high. "Name's Con."
I squinted at him involuntarily and he chuckled low in his throat. "Relax lady. It's short for Conrad."
"Oh." I pushed the word out with effort.
He looked at me hard a moment then shook his head. "You want to hear a story?" He leaned back in his chair decisively, before I could even answer, his breakfast already forgotten. "Once upon a time."

Alert! SOS!

Hi! This is kind of embarrassing, but I need your help. A few weeks ago I was nominated for the chocolate books award. Well I was going to do it this week, but I cannot remember who nominated me, therefore I have no one to thank or link back to! I've been through miles and miles of my blogger feed and I can't find the post anywhere. So, if you nominated me, could you let me know please? I can answer the questions just fine without the original post, but I don't want to be rude and not thank you 0.o
Drop me a comment please!

Orphan's Song- A Book Review

Today I'm reviewing Orphan's Song by Gillian Bronte Adams. I have to throw in an apology to Gillian here, because I was supposed to have this thing done by mid October, and I was on track to do just that, but then I started getting these blasted headaches again, and I couldn't stand to read off my Kindle screen for very long. So I'm sorry this is late coming.

My tardiness aside, this is an amazing book. I honest to goodness don't have any complaints. The story was paced so well, and the plot was great. But, here, read what goodreads says.

Who Will Keep the Song Alive?

Every generation has a Songkeeper - one chosen to keep the memory of the Song alive. And in every generation, there are those who seek to destroy the chosen one.

When Birdie's song draws the attention of a dangerous Khelari soldier, she is kidnapped and thrust into a world of ancient secrets and betrayals. Rescued by her old friend, traveling peddler Amos McElhenny, Birdie flees the clutches of her enemies in pursuit of the truth behind the Song’s power.

Ky is a street-wise thief and a member of the Underground—a group of orphans banded together to survive . . . and to fight the Khelari. Haunted by a tragic raid, Ky joins Birdie and Amos in hopes of a new life beyond the reach of the soldiers. But the enemy is closing in, and when Amos’ shadowed past threatens to undo them all, Birdie is forced to face the destiny that awaits her as the Songkeeper of Leira.

♥♥♥♥♥

The characters in this story. I love them. Birdie is the first twelve year old character I have read in years. And I loved her. She wasn't so much a twelve year old that she was whiney, or childish, but she was still very much a twelve year old. She wasn't sure of everything she did like so many of the heroine's running around in books these days. I liked that vulnerability about her.
Oddly enough my favorite character is the old peddler Amos. I love his dialogue, and his mysterious past. It killed me reading through the whole book trying to figure out what on earth he was hiding. Then when it finally came out...I took awhile getting back up from where I'd crashed to the floor (word picture, not literal). And Ky. Love him. Enough said.
The villain is terrifying, and I love the spooky feel that hovers over the story whenever he or his soldiers are around.

The plot completely held my interest. It's been a long time since I read a fantasy book that I didn't have to worry about stumbling upon some overly detailed witchcraft scene, that also didn't read like an allegory that simply swapped out Jesus' name for something more medieval sounding.

And, aside from all that fun, it's the first book in a series! (The Songkeeper Chronicles)
It is definitely worth your time to read it. Gillian is still hosting the super awesome contest on her blog to win prizes from the book, so check that out as well.

Walking on Clouds

The fog hangs heavy
The branches they drip
The sky is gray now
And Life's 'bout to slip

Overcast sunlight
And overcast mood
Droplets on grass blades
Good feelings subdued

Lift up your eyes now
And let the tears dry
Days don't last forever
This fog will roll by

Life is still waiting
For sorrow to heal
There's always something
To make laughter peal

When fog settles hard
And happiness shrouds
Think of it this way
You're walking on clouds

Yesterday was very foggy, and I got one of those odd little thoughts that me and my dad were driving the pickup through clouds. Then of course I got a fuzzy idea for a poem that should go with that somehow, but be more of a metaphor. And there was a picture in my head to go along with it. It was cheesy, and showed the girls face, and she was actually walking through puffy clouds, not shading, but I can't draw faces, or clouds, so I decided on this one instead. I drew the picture last night before heading up to bed, and still wasn't really sure on the poem to go with it, but I came up with it in bed just before the minion's turned the lights off, so I was happy. Hope you like it.

I'd Like To Order a Peanut Butter Thing

Today was chilly and I was stuck doing school, and I found myself craving coffee. That doesn't happen very often so I thought I'd better take advantage of it (and a chance to get away from school) so I went to Pinterest for yummy coffee recipes.
Most of them were for iced coffee, which just wouldn't do in this sort of weather, so I went to the kitchen to experiment.
That's when things got crazy.
We had no creamer.
Adding plain sugar wasn't going to cut it.
Putting in a spoon of chocolate milk powder started me off on the right path.
A few drops of vanilla was good.
Coffee and caramel go together right? So I went to put caramel ice-cream topping in but it was basically empty.
So was the butterscotch for that matter.
So there I sat with a semi yummy cup of coffee and nothing much to put in it.
Know what I tried?
Peanut butter.
Yeah.
I have an unhealthy love for peanut butter

I heated the water up really hot so it would dissolve and threw a spoon if peanut butter in it.
And do you know what else?
It tasted good!

I think I may have invented some kind of mocha peanut butter coffee thing.
Can you imagine walking into Starbucks and being like
"Yeah, I'd like one of those new Mocha Peanut Butter Coffee Things. To go."

Beautiful Books

Hi guys! So instead of doing Beautiful People this month, Further Up and Further In is hosting Beautiful Books. The idea is to answer questions about our NaNo project (or any other story we happen to be working on). There will be three different sets of questions, but you can follow the link for the full details.

Anyway, using my NaNo idea, Running Crazy, here are the questions and answers.

What came first: characters or plot idea? Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Do you have a title and/or a “back-cover-blurb”?
I have a working title at least, and that's Running Crazy. Right now I'm still working out a blurb.

What wordcount are you aiming for when your novel is finished?
I'm hoping at least 50K, though I doubt I'll make that in November.

Sum up your novel in 3 sentences.
Boy meets girl.
Boy likes girl.
Girl leaves.

No, not really.

Reeve and Amy get tossed together through a series of circumstances and end up on a road trip together. During the duration of the trip they start to develop feelings for each other. When the trip is over however, they don't know if those feelings are strong enough to stand up to normal life.

Sum up your characters in one word each.
Reeve = Adorable. Amy = Broken.

Which character are you most excited to write? Tell us about them!
Well, the point of view is Reeve, so I guess him. I like him a lot.

What about your villain? Who is he, what is his goal?
I still don't have a flesh and blood villain! :'(

What is your protagonist’s goal? And what stands in the way?
Reeve's goal is to land Amy as his official and for real girlfriend. Her mom stands in the way.

What inciting incident begins your protagonist’s journey?
Reeve gets a call from Donny asking if he wants to take off with him and some friends during summer vacation.

Where is your novel set?
It jumps between Kearney, Nebraska and the Laramie, Wyoming area.

What are three big scenes in your novel that change the game completely?
The first would be when Reeve and Amy have to take the pickup together. The second would be when they ditch their friends for their own trip. The third would be when the cops come after them.

What is the most dynamic relationship your character has? Who else do they come in contact with or become close to during the story?
Well the love interest is obviously Amy, and Reeve doesn't like any of the other girls in the story. He does a lot of interacting with Donny and Chloe though.

How does your protagonist change by the end of the novel?
He's hopelessly in love, ten times more mature, and double confident in his ability to drive way too fast.

Do you have an ending in mind, or do you plan to see what happens?
I have a vague ending in mind, but not a definite ending scene. I know what happens, just not exactly how.

What are your hopes and dreams for your book? What impressions are you hoping this novel will leave on your readers and yourself? (This is your mission statement, one you can look back on when the road gets tough.)
I'm hoping it will turn out to be 'pretty'. Something heartwarming, like John Green-ish minus all the death and heartache. I'd like it to have the best emotional feel of all the stories I've written so far, and hopefully it will be much longer too.

There you go! You should go check out the questions too, because I'd love to read your answers.

Unlucky Bug

Mmmhmm, Bass speaks my language everyone.

I really don't have anything big and grand to write about today, so I figured I'd relay a story.

The other day me and my mom...or should I say, my mom and I, were driving down the road, coming home from checking cows. It was kind of warm out, and our beater pickup doesn't have air conditioning, so I had my window down and I was playing airplane....

You know, when you hang your arm out the window and let it catch the wind, and fly all over. Don't tell me you've never played it...still don't know what I'm talking about? Here.
See! Even Taylor does it.

Anyway, I was doing that and suddenly.

Pain.

Oh the pain.

I pulled my arm back in and amongst splattered little remains, I found a stinger embedded in my arm.
What are the odds that in a whole entire road, that little doink managed to hit my arm? My arm is only three or four inches wide!
I mean, how much of the road do they have to take? Can't I have a little space too?
Not only did it hurt like heck, I couldn't get the darn thing out of my arm. I guess it was sort of high impact, and that thing was stuck tight. Mom was driving, and while there is no law in our state against pulling stingers and driving, it still wasn't the smartest idea. So after about a mile (so we were off the sidehill) she pulled over and ripped the thing out for me.
At least part of it. I think half of it's still in there. There's still a hole in my arm, and a lump underneath.

Oh well. I can't complain too much I guess. When it's all sorted out, I'd say I got the better end of the stick than unidentified flying creature.

The Elite- A Book Review

It's book review time! I know lot's of people have read this one by now, but I'm a little behind on my to read list.
Anyway, I finished this book  last week while sitting with the auger, so I'm reviewing it.

Here is what goodreads says.

The Selection began with thirty-five girls.
Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's heart is fiercer than ever—and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen?

America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America's chance to choose is about to slip away

My Rating:
♥♥♥♥
If I could use one phrase to describe this book it would be Nail Biter. I was so worried through the whole thing (and still am). There were so many twists and turns that constantly had me changing my mind.
"I hate Maxon. I love Aspen. Oh, Maxon, I guess he's not so bad. Aspen! Oh, I hate Maxon again. Aspen why would you do that? I...I like Maxon?"

^That's the trauma I was going through for the whole book.
There were other twists besides what the two love interests were up to as well. America surprised me hugely several times, as well as several other characters.

I'm also happy to announce that the predictions I made in the first book started to come true in the second book. Just saying.

The ending was a perfect cliff hanger. The kind that make you thrilled and want to hurry and grab the next book (even though I didn't, I grabbed Reached instead...)

As far as content goes, that's the only reason I gave it a four instead of five. There were several mild cuss words. Not enough to really condemn the book for.
The cuddling level was definitely up. There was talk of touching, and heavy kissing, and what not. Nothing horribly graphic, but it was still there.

All in all, it was definitely a good read, and I will be reading The One as soon as I'm finished with Reached.

A Novel Idea- On Time

Hi guys! Guess what! I remembered to do my A Novel Idea on time. Isn't it wonderful? This weeks questions are about yours truly and the writing process I use.

1. What was your first story plot? Do you ever consider rewriting it?
Where do you get most of your ideas?
That's hard...I have a lot of stories that I write when I was about 11 and I'm not sure which one was first. The one that was the most developed I suppose was my orphan maid girl who ran away and accidentally fell in with the kings secret messengers. Cliche anyone? I do plan on rewriting it, because I love the characters, but the plot will change drastically. Don't know when I'll get time to do it though...
I get most of my ideas in the shower. No, actually I get lots of ideas on Pinterest, or just when I'm out working or whatever and I hear or see something neat. I also get lots of ideas by watching movies or reading and thinking, I would have done that this way, instead if etc.

2. How old were you when you decided that you couldn’t stand it anymore – and you started writing?
I've been writing stories literally since I was like three (picture books). But I started writing more full length better spelled stories when I was 11 or so. I never really decided to start writing. I just had ideas I wanted to write down. Most of my early stories were remakes of my favorite stories where I changed who died or who got married to who so that I liked it better.

3. Do you have a favorite character from one of your books? Describe them.
Well that's got to be the hardest question ever.
I'll try to narrow this down. I really love Darren Fairbanks from The Riders of Carstindad. He's the reason I want to redo that story. He's 18, with shaggy brown hair, and dark brown eyes. He strongly believes that it's better to ask forgiveness than permission. He is a total jokster, but very serious when it comes to his job.
Some of my other favorites are Cannon from Out of Darkness. Jake from Jakes story. Anthony from The Dynamic Duo. And Rath from Raising Rebels...even though he's kind of the bad guy.

4. Do you act out your scenes, or just write them?
I usually just write them, though I can't promise that I don't smirk whenever I write that the character did. Sometimes me and the minions play the story out for fun, but that's usually after I write them. Lots of times if I don't have paper (and I'm alone) I talk the scene out. I play all the characters and say their dialogue so that I can remember it later on.

There you go! An on time post. That was fun :) Talk to you next week!

A Writing Space

Guys!! Guess what! I have created myself a writing space!
I've tried to in the past but I had an old metal school desk with no storage (and it was ugly. You can't create at an ugly environment) and it just never worked.

But my mom got some new shelves at a garage sale for her sewing room so I talked her into letting me have her old desk.
Viola!
We hauled that thing in and cleaned it up and I got to work organizing all my writing junk so I could properly utilize my new space.
It took several hours spread across four days, but I got it done and I like the outcome.
Wanna see?

Here are my three bookshelves.
Writing books, empty tablets, folders of old cringe-worthy stories, guitar music, favorite books, guitar equipment, cd's, etc, etc.
(You would not believe how clean and organized they look compared to what they were)
Then over here I have my story board. There's a big bulletin board behind it, but it's full of drawings and pictures so I wasn't willing to give it up. I snatched this one from my mom's office (she won't miss it). The story that's currently on there is The Assassins

And here's the big part.
The desk.
Down there at the bottom I have folders and tablets with all my current work in progress'. The drawer holds notecards and little notebooks for story boarding.
And on the top I keep pens, pencils, markers, paper clips, and all sorts of random writer utensils.
You now know what I like to drink.
I just used pliers to rip the tops off when I was finished.
I'm so excited to start using it. I just need to commandeer a chair, and hopefully a laptop will be added to the mix soon. Can't wait!

My NaNo Project

Hello out there! I've decided to take part in nanowrimo and thought I'd let you all in on a little bit of the story idea.

This is the play cover I made for it. It was one of my senior pictures, and I had to edit myself out of the center, so it's a little blotchy, but in general I like it.

As you can see, the title right now is Running Crazy, which I like and want to keep if at all possible.

I really haven't worked on any type of blurb yet, but basically it would go something like this.

Reeve Coughnel's summer plans don't go past going to work and fixing up his pickup, but when his friend Donny invites him to come with him and his girlfriend on a road trip to Wyoming, he takes him up on it. What Donny failed to mention is that Chloe isn't the only girl coming. Her friend Amy has also been invited, and there's not room for all four of them in his single cab pickup.
The two strangers are tossed together for the trip and find they make pretty good friends, and they much prefer each others company to their awkward dating friends.
It's only after they decide to strike out on their own little adventure that things take a turn toward crazy.

Yeah, not the best, but I'm working on it. I'll have it polished by the time NaNo starts.

Several things inspired this story. Reeve came from a roleplay character I made one time. The early stages of their relationship are copied off of my parent's. And the setting takes place where I went on vacation this summer.

I have a few secondary characters like Donny and Chloe, along with some parents, but my two main characters are
Amy:

And Reeve:

Reeve is the point of view character. He's seventeen, addicted to Doctor Pepper, and is an absolute speed demon with any type of vehicle. Unlike most of my guy characters, he has nice parents. They both have big jobs, so they are gone quite often on business, but they both care for him and don't have any huge issues. Reeve is an only child, works the night shift at Menards, and spends his free time working on rebuilding an old pickup he's got.

Amy is also seventeen. She lives with her mom most of the time but she comes to spend the summer with her dad. Both parents care about her very much, though her father does suffer from an alcohol problem and can be violent at times. She may or may not have a younger brother. That is to be decided. She likes Italian food, and anything involving pretzels.

I'm not sure what else to tell you about it just yet. I spent lots of my time while watching the auger working on the plot. I've got a basic outline, but I'm still struggling with an antagonist. The situation seems more evil than any of the people, so I'm not sure what I'll do for definite conflict yet.
If you want to take a look at the Pinterest board   That might give you some fun clues about where the story is heading. (I'll just tell you- it's heading toward a sequel)

Thanks for reading!

Oh Look, I Missed Another Saturday

I just can't seem to get it through my head that I do A Novel Idea on Saturday. Oh well. At least the blogging police haven't come for me yet.
Anyhoo, here are this (or rather, last) week's questions. I'll be using Creed, from RP Fantasy.

If their house was on fire, what are three things they would grab?
He would grab his pet bird, Vox...I was going to say books, but that's more than three...Whichever magic book he could get his hands on first, and probably Rafe, if he wasn't out yet.
What is one talent they would like to have?
The talent of communicating. His life would be so much simpler if he could figure out the skill of spitting out what he's thinking.
If they could change one thing about themselves what would it be and why?
He would change the fact that he is a magician. It brings on a lot of trouble and stress, and he rather not have to deal with it.
What living person do they most admire?
Hmmm, that's a tough one. He admires quite a few people, but doesn't trust them much. Can you admire someone and still not trust them?
I'd have to say Rafe. He admires how he can talk his way in or out of anything, and never seems to lose his composure no matter what is going on.
There you go! Thanks for reading.

How To (not)

You know, there's a lot of advice floating around out there (in the beyond the beyond) about how to get a boy's attention. There's also a sad lack of advice on how not to go about this. I've done extensive research on this topic and I have compiled a list for you all to study and use.

How not to alert a guy to the fact that you share a planet.

1. Do not make things up. If by some freak chance he speaks to you, do not give your tree house a cool *cough*lame*cough* secret name.

2. Don't run up to him in front of his friends. Especially if it is to demand an explanation for why he's leaving on a mission trip or to ask if he remembers who you are.

3. Don't copy their every move. If they take a drink, leave yours. If he goes for the meat, go for the potatoes instead.

4. Don't get a Dorito stuck in your throat and cough milk all over them.

5. Don't forget to bring a razor to camp. Just don't do it.

6. Don't outrun, out arm wrestle, out thumb wrestle, out shoot, beat at checkers, or have a larger (or even equal) shoe size as them. They just don't like it.

7. If you're lucky enough to sit on a bench next to them, and someone sits down on the other side of you, don't slide across the five foot of space between you and the guy until your arms touch.

8. Don't throw things at them.

9. Don't beat them at capture the flag. They'll notice you yes, but they'll call you horrible.

10. Don't be short.

11. Don't fix your earring through the entire church service just so you can keep your head turned to look at them. They'll think you're weird.

12. If they catch you staring, look away, don't stick your tongue out.

13. Don't go up and tell them you saw them staring.

14. Don't dump water on them.

15. If you're in a choir, don't be the only one staring at your book and never once look up.

16. But do look at your book some. Don't stare at him the whole time either. A) he will NEVER look at you B) the whole church will know you've got the hots for him.

17. Don't tell anyone else. By the end of the week everyone will know.

18. If he walks into church with a girl, don't start crying. At least wait till the pastor has moved past announcements so that everyone just thinks you're deeply moved by the message.

19. If his relative says to talk to above mentioned girl because she's shy, don't say "is she his girlfriend? Cause I'm no talking to her if she's his girlfriend."

Within five minutes the relative will have called him into the kitchen to tell him, and they will laugh at you.

20. Don't let your dad talk to him. Don't do it.

21. Don't yell goodbye when they leave. Really don't yell at them at all.

22. Don't talk about him like he's not there. If you want to ask what kind of pickup he drives, ask him, not empty space when he's standing three feet away.

23. Don't try to find common ground. Don't tell them you like to sing too and you should totally tour together, or that you play guitar too, or that you got your wisdom teeth out as well and also turned into a complete grouch.

24. Don't drive down the road like a zombie. Inevitably you will meet them and they'll wave and you'll just be there all zoned out and they'll forever remember you as that girl who drives in her sleep.

25. Don't tell the same story six times in one hour.

26. Don't bother sitting with his family at a potluck cause he'll go sit with your family instead.

27. Don't let on that you remember things he did when he was 8 when he doesn't even remember knowing you back then.

28. Don't get a zit on your forehead.

29. Don't bother dressing up nice because he won't be in church that day. Wait till you're dressed kinda strange. He'll show up every time.

So there you have it. This probably isn't a complete list, but it should give you a good start.

Note: 0% of these examples came from personal experience.

It's High Time For An Update

It is.
Because even though I posted practically every day last week, all of those posts were written at least a week in advance, and had nothing whatsoever to do with what I was actually spending my time on.

So, what was I doing? The first half of the week I was running the auger for my dad while we harvested soy beans.

During these four days I did tons of reading and tons of writing, which I'll tell you about later this week.
This is the setup I had for my 'office'.

Lovely isn't it? I was working on The Iron Curse, RP Fantasy, and a story idea that is unmentioned so far ;)

Once the beans were done I've been helping dad get ready to bring calves home to wean, (so setting up panels and feed bunks) and chasing cows out of various corn fields.

Maggie has been showing up with lots of creatures to decorate the lawn. Coons, weasels, mice. I don't know where she get's these things. If it's not actually fuzzy things, it's blood splatters all over the porch. She's some kind of vicious.

It has turned cold, so I suppose I'll have to hop on the band wagon and do some sort of post about fall, and warm drinks, and cute clothes. I'll save that for anther time though.

I wore my red lipstick to church and I loved it.
The opinion of others has no bearing on this story.

I must be off now. Thank you for reading! I'll get some more posts on the way soon :)

Four- A boook Review

I got this book several months ago, and completely stalled out from reading it. The feels from Allegiant were still just too fresh, and I wasn't sure I was ready to delve back into my sweet baboo's brain.

But I did eventually dive in, and I completely blew through it....I'm getting ahead of myself aren't I? I'm supposed to tell you what goodreads says before I tell you what I think.
Alright. Here's goodreads take on the matter.

Two years before Beatrice Prior made her choice, the sixteen-year-old son of Abnegation’s faction leader did the same. Tobias’s transfer to Dauntless is a chance to begin again. Here, he will not be called the name his parents gave him. Here, he will not let fear turn him into a cowering child.

Newly christened “Four,” he discovers during initiation that he will succeed in Dauntless. Initiation is only the beginning, though; Four must claim his place in the Dauntless hierarchy. His decisions will affect future initiates as well as uncover secrets that could threaten his own future—and the future of the entire faction system.

Two years later, Four is poised to take action, but the course is still unclear. The first new initiate who jumps into the net might change all that. With her, the way to righting their world might become clear. With her, it might become possible to be Tobias once again.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth comes a companion volume to the worldwide bestselling DIVERGENT series, told from the per-spective of the immensely popular character Tobias. The four pieces included here—THE TRANSFER, THE INITIATE, THE SON, and THE TRAITOR—plus three additional exclusive scenes, give readers an electrifying glimpse into the history and heart of Tobias, and set the stage for the epic saga of the DIVERGENT trilogy.

♥♥♥♥
Yes, that's four stars. I really should have given it five, but...it's Four.

This book consists of four short stories. The Transfer, The Initiate, The son, and The Traitor.

(Free Four isn't in the book, but it's awesome too, and you can get it on Kindle for $0.99)

We get to see Four's life before Tris comes on scene, and then get to be in his head for some of the best parts in Divergent. There were several scenes I wish would have been included in the set, but I was completely thrilled with the ones that were there.
And, the best part, it didn't even come close to the feelsy parts of Allegiant, so my tender heartstrings were completely safe during the read.

If you like Divergent and the boy with a number for a name, you will love this book.

100/4/100 Update

Hiya! I'm here to give an update on my 100 for 100 challenge story.
It's going a little slower than I planned, but I've managed to write over 100 words every day and I'm somewhere in the 5000 word range.

If you've ever saw the Pinterest board you'll notice it's called rp fantasy, and that's because Creed is based off a character I made for a role play.

Last night was spent scrolling through notes I'd made on him and what happened during the game, because when I started him around a year ago I knew I wanted him to be a story of his own, and kept lots of notes.

Things have been progressing a little slow with the plot, due to the fact that most of the role play took place after this story, so in what will be the second and third book. I am having fun developing Creed and his supporting cast, as well as building up the events that will lay the foundation for all the fun stuff I have planned for the rest of the series.

Would you like to read a few snippets? Of course you would!
Nalik smiled. "Father said the orchestra can come up after dinner so we can have a dance."
Creed felt like his tongue shriveled up inside his head, and couldn't think of a single response.
"That would be great." Rafe came to his rescue and Creed managed to regain his vocabulary.
"I only know the men's part, so you'll have to be the lady, Rafe."

"Thirsty, Master Creed?" Emlin asked, ladling him a glass of orange liquid.
"Yes, thank you." Creed smiled at the older woman and took it. He leaned against the corner of the table and took a sip, his mouth puckering at the tartness. "What are you doing with the kitchen help tonight?" He asked the maid.
"One of the younger girls asked me to trade with her. She had some plans apparently."
Creed nodded a bit. "I'm glad. At least I'll have someone to talk to tonight."
Emlin chuckled. "Oh, Master Creed. Go talk to those girls. Rafe is over there."
Creed gave her a crestfallen look like he would a mother. "Must I?"
She smiled gently and nodded. "I'm afraid so."
He exaggerated a sigh and she laughed "Well, maybe not just yet. Here they come with the food."

Rafe turned to Alize, who had managed to claim the seat beside him and offered to fill her plate, following the tradition of serving neighbors.
Creed turned to Nalik before she could make any comment to remind him. "Would you like white or dark?" He let the corner of his mouth curl up as he raised a knife to the roasted duck between them.
She dipped her chin. "White, thank you."
He carved her off a slice and slid it onto her plate, then tilted the knife handle toward her.
Nalik shook her head slightly. "I read a lovely ballad the other day that said something to the effect that knives should be kept from a princesses hand. I'll serve the greens."
Creed chuckled and cut a darker piece for himself. "I think that's talking about something deeper than dinner knives."
"All things start out small and trivial." She returned, brushing his hand away to put the garlic fried greens on his plate.
